Fantasy of Lights shine at Vasona Lake County Park

    By Shari Kaplan

The second annual Fantasy of Lights is lighting up Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos through Jan. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. each night. The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department is the event's presenter, in partnership with the Silicon Valley Parks Foundation.

The Fantasy of Lights comprises a 1 1/2-mile drive through Vasona Park, which has been dressed up with thousands of colorful light and light themes on its trees and bushes and in free-standing displays. The improvements over last year's event include more lighted vegetation, more animated displays, an in-park music simulcast and concession areas.

The Silicon Valley Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for Santa Clara County citizens by generating funding and support for projects, such as picnic shelters, improvements to campgrounds and trails and nature and wildlife programs for school-age children.

Admission to Fantasy of Lights is $9 per car Monday through Thursday, and $13 Friday through Sunday. Drivers follow a planned route through the park that lets them see all of the sights. For more information, call 408.358.3741 ext. 131, or visit www.fantasyoflights.com on the Internet.

The nonprofit Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad, which operates from Oak Meadow Park, is running a musical Christmas train through Vasona Park in conjunction with the Fantasy of Lights. The train is available Monday through Thursday, from 6 to 10 p.m., Nov. 27-Dec. 28. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Advance tickets are available at Collector's Corner, 481 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Call 408.395.7433 for more information.
