'The Other N. Santa Cruz Avenue'
The north side of town is service-oriented and neighborly, but some fear that changes are in the wind
|
Trendy. Upscale. Fun. Visitor-friendly. Many people use these words to describe downtown Los Gatos--well, downtown south of Highway 9, anyway. Just steps from the boutiques, studios and chic restaurants that many residents and visitors consider the heart of Los Gatos, another town seems to exist. Call it "The Other N. Santa Cruz Avenue." Stepping across Highway 9 on N. Santa Cruz Avenue is like stepping back in Los Gatos history. There, one finds great expanses of car-friendly asphalt, plain and uninspired architecture, and a handful of businesses representing the old, working-class town of Los Gatos.
