    Coughran makes all-tourney team

    Liz Coughran of Los Gatos and Tiffany Scaglione were each named to the all-tournament team after leading the San Jose City College women's basketball team to a second-place finish at the Ventura Tournament recently.

    Scaglione tossed in 16 points to lead all San Jose scorers in the championship game against host Ventura, but the Jaguars lost 69-58. Coughran, a former star at Los Gatos High, added 14 points.

    Middle School Running Stars

    Five runners from Los Gatos area middle schools finished among the leaders at the Central Coast cross country championships held recently.

    Placing in the top six in their respective divisions were Jackie Hill, Kaela Hoch and Steven Rodas of Union Middle School and Monica Thomas and Jackie Kemp of Fisher.

    Top Cats soccer team places third

    The Top Cats, a girls under-12 team from the Los Gatos United Soccer League, finished third in the South San Jose Thanksgiving Tournament. The girls were fresh off of a second-place finish in the District Cup.

    The Top Cats will now advance to the Federation Cup tournament in January in Sacramento. Members of the team include Leslie Anderson, Caitlin Beaupre, Katie Bonadies, Pauline Chow, Jennifer Cruse, Kelsey Dickens, Sheena Donohue, Casey Duncheon, Cola Hess, Kaela Hoch, Jackie Kemp, Michelle O'Brien, Ali Rubnitz, Carley Stavis, Riana Wernick and Shannel Whitham. The team is coached by Steve Stavis and the trainer is Dan Dalzochio.
