    Story Poles

    Year In Review

Growth-related issues marked Los Gatos in 1999

The big orange netting that's cropped up around Los Gatos tells a story. Literally, the nets and the poles to which they're attached tell the story of proposed growth. The poles have been used by the Planning Commission for about 18 months, and their purpose is to help planners and residents alike better visualize how new building projects will fit into the environment. But there's a haunting quality to the story poles as they flap in the breeze over small bungalows or patches of undeveloped land. They tell the story of growth and prosperity. A story, some would argue, whose moral is that sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.   More
