Los Gatos, California Since1881
| The Prowler This week's column is all about animals - afavored topic for which the Prowler gives noexcuse, since this cat happens to be ananimal too! Here's an event that soundsfunny, but it's true! On June 27, a man namedPhilbert (no last name given) and his pet pigWilbert will visit the Los Gatos PublicLibrary to share their own rendition of theE.B. White classic, Charlotte's Web. The freeprogram begins at 3:30 p.m. and is for kids 5and older. For more info about this and otherprograms the library has for the younger set, call 408-354-6893. This next event isn'tfree, but it's very interesting. On June 24and 27 - depending on age group - the Wild BirdCenter of Los Gatos is hosting a class forkids titled Nocturnal Neighbors. Kids willtest their senses and explore what life islike as a bat, raccoon, opossum, rodent orother critter that comes out at night. Hey,some of us cats are nocturnal too! TheProwler supposes we felines aren't exoticenough, but that's OK; the class should stillbe fun. Cost is $10 per child. While parentsare at it, they might want to check out theentire summer series of science and natureclasses the Wild Bird Center is planning, which includes Rainbow Hike, FeatheredFriends, Burrowing Animals, Oak Adventuresand Meteor Mania. Call 408-358-9453 forreservations. They're not the only ones withcool classes! The nonprofit Youth ScienceInstitute has its yearly slate of summer daycamp programs for kids of all ages at VasonaLake County Park. The topics are as temptingas ever.
