Fire off Bear Creek Road burns five acres;CDF is investigating

A fire that burned five acres off Bear CreekRoad has been preliminarily linked to powerlines.

According to California Department ofForestry (CDF) Fire Capt. Eric Woods, theearly-morning July 12 blaze is still underinvestigation.

According to Linda Chandler of the SantaClara County Fire Department, the departmentreceived the emergency call at 1:40 a.m. Atthe time, only one acre was burning, but bythe time the flames were contained more thantwo hours later, five acres of timber andground litter had been consumed on a "verysteep hillside," Chandler said. The fire didnot damage any structures and did not causeinjuries.

Woods said CDF sent out five engines andabout 34 firefighters, while county fire senttwo engines, multiple firemen and onebattalion chief.

The California Highway Patrol closed BearCreek Road between Summit Road and Highway 17most of the day, offering detours to drivers.
