Hazardous MaterialsJuly 16, 5:18
p.m. Near the Miles Avenue entrance to the
Los Gatos Creek Trail, someone saw a brown
substance pouring into the creek. The town
speculated that a water main had broke.
Police found that a construction crew broke
the water main. The main would be fixed.
TheftJuly 16, 4:13 p.m. Two men were
inside a N. Santa Cruz Avenue business. One
of them had the clerk check for an item in
the back of the store while the other ran off
with a suitcase, leaving in a waiting blue
sports car. A report was taken.
FightJuly 16, 2:22 p.m. Several
people on Chester Street were heard shouting
and fighting. The first call that police
received was that someone had screamed, "Use
it." A second caller heard a yell of, "Put
down the shovel." When police confronted the
group, they were told that it was only a
verbal argument. No report was taken.
SolicitationJuly 16, 11:33 a.m.
Representatives from a San Francisco
advertising and promotion company were doing
solicitations in downtown Los Gatos. The
owner of a Royce Street business called
police, wondering if they were allowed to
solicit in town. Police gave the business
owner advice and sent the solicitors on their
way.
Malicious MischiefJuly 16, 9:57 a.m.
A Zena Avenue resident said she had found
debris and construction barricades on her
front lawn several times in the past six
months. The evening prior, someone had thrown
a rock through her son's bedroom window. The
woman suspected that her son's ex-girlfriend
was behind all the mischief. Police gave the
resident advice.
Suspicious PersonJuly 16, 9:50 a.m.
At a N. Santa Cruz Avenue business, a man was
sitting by the front door. Customers
complained to management that the man was
panhandling. After a confrontation by police,
the man moved along.
Neighborhood DisturbanceJuly 16,
12:36 a.m. A loud party was being held in the
vicinity of Calle Marguerita. Police broke up
the party. One suspect that police were
planning on citing and then releasing was
found to have a $5,000 warrant from the
county for an animal-related violation. The
man was arrested.
Suspicious PersonJuly 15, 8:43 p.m.
On Withey Road, a resident saw a man walking
around. The resident had "No Trespassing"
signs up, but had seen that man around his
property at least four times in the recent
past. The resident wanted to file a formal
complaint with police. Another emergency call
was received by someone who said the
"trespasser" was an employee of a process
service and that the resident had blocked the
process server in the driveway. By the time
police arrived, he was gone, and the resident
said that he was actually not the same person
who had been on his property before. Police
gave the resident advice.
