Senior games

Let the games begin!

That's the California Senior Games, and they'll be in San Jose Aug. 2-11. Opening ceremonies for the event, open to athletes ages 50 and over, will be held at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose and will include a torch lighting ceremony.

Athletes will compete in archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bowling, cycling, 5K and 10K runs, golf, horseshoes, lawn bowling, power lifting, racquetball, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and track and field.

Local athletes in the competition will include Bob Mallison and Jeff Fishback of Los Gatos.

Masters swim

A masters swimming program for those age 19 and older is offered Monday through Thursday, 7-8 p.m., at the Los Gatos High School pool. The program features regular structured workouts for swimmers of all ability levels. The cost will be $40 per month ongoing. All-star game

The Independent Senior Semi Pro Baseball all-star game will be played Aug. 13, 7 p.m., at San Jose Municipal Stadium. Players from Bay Area semi-pro teams will make up the all-star squads. Tickets are priced at $5. For more information, visit www.aswillowglen.com or call 408.265.3325.

Girls volleyball

The Vision Volleyball Club and Los Gatos High School will present summer volleyball camps for girls in grades 5-12 Aug. 12-16 in the high school gym.

A youth camp for girls in grades 5-8, to be held
9 a.m.-noon each day, will develop fundamentals and improve ball control.

An advanced camp for girls in grades 9-12, set for 5-8 p.m. each day, will prepare players for the high school season with sessions on conditioning, improving ball control, developing advanced skills and position work.
