It was a great ride for the Los Gatos Little
League 10-year-old all-stars, but the
District 12 champions lost twice to
Capitola-Soquel at the Section 5 tournament
to face elimination.
Los Gatos won three of five games in the
tournament, beating Berryessa 6-2, Hollister
3-2 and Los Altos Hills 10-7. But the locals
lost 4-2 to Capitola-Soquel to fall into the
loser's bracket, then lost 8-6 to the same
club to drop out of the tourney.
Los Gatos had beaten Quito 16-0, Saratoga
10-5 and Lincoln Glen 2-0 and 6-4 to win the
District 12 championship and advance to
sectional play.
In the section opener, Colin Chapman tossed a
complete game and Bill Cardia doubled and
tripled to drive in four runs to lead Los
Gatos to the win over Berryessa. Nick
Hirschman supported with three hits in the
win.
Gatos lost to Capitola-Soquel a game later to
fall into the elimination round, but fought
back to take Hollister and Los Altos Hills.
The locals got another shot at
Capitola-Soquel and played the club from the
coast tough before losing the 8-6
heartbreaker.
Members of the Los Gatos squad included
Hirschman, Cardia, Chapman, Tim Garvey, Todd
Ericson, Alex Silva, Luke Politi, Derek
Rodrigues, Matt Horton, Hendee Wall, Andrew
Salazar and Andy Furia. The team manager was
Bob Ericson and his coaches were Dan Kropp
and Ken Rodrigues.
