Tennis event raises money for good cause
|
 |
Like a well-matched doubles tennis team, the
second annual Play for a Cure is coming to
the Los Gatos Swim & Racquet Club on
Sept. 6 to give participants a chance to pair
their love of tennis with their desire to
raise money for a charitable cause.
Play for a Cure, organized by Los Gatan
Joanna Rodgin, is a round-robin tennis
tournament in which all players are expected
to raise a minimum of $150 in sponsorships or
donations. The participant who raises the
most donation money will earn a free digital
camera. Proceeds benefit The Breast Cancer
Fund and the Women's Healthy Eating &
Living (WHEL) program at Stanford University
Medical Center. Last year the event raised
nearly $7,000.
The tennis matches run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Food and wine will be served from 5 to 9
p.m.; a silent auction takes place during the
same time frame. Among the dinner donors are
Cafe Primavera, The Chart House, Icing on the
Cake, California Cafe, Los Gatos Brewing
Company, Andale's and Saratoga's Big Basin
Bistro. The Play for a Cure sponsors include
USTA NorCal, Los Gatos Swim & Racquet
Club, Wilson, Inside Tennis, the San Jose
Mercury News, Revo, Domus, Luna and
Ray-Ban.
For information about donating to or
participating in Play for a Cure, call
408.356.5885 or email jrodgin@aol.com.
