Former Los Gatos resident Estella M. Meyer
died July 29 of complications from carcinoid
syndrome. She was 69.
Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Port Huron, Mich.,
Meyer moved to Los Gatos with her parents,
the late James and Mary DiDuca, in 1960. She
was employed in the family business, DiDuca
Brothers, Inc., for many years. After her
1977 marriage, she moved to San Jose, where
she was a homemaker. She also worked as a
bookkeeper for United Way and, most recently,
Kirkeby Engineering.
She was diagnosed with carcinoid syndrome in
1995, but, her family says, she endured the
rare disease with a brave grace and an
aversion to sympathy. "Estella was
independent and determined and valued the
health and welfare of family and friends
above her own," they wrote of her.
Meyer was a skilled cook and decorator and
loved music and art. She was a proficient
accordion and piano player and a member of
the Los Gatos History Club and Business &
Professional Women USA.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years,
Jerome W. Meyer of San Jose; brothers Mark
and Joseph DiDuca of Paradise; and sisters
Dorothy Eagen of Los Gatos and Joyce Kihnley
of Cupertino.
Memorial services have been held, with
interment at Paradise Cemetery in Paradise.
