Swan wins golf tourney title
By Dick Sparrer
Dorothy Schwartz of San Jose and Joshua Swan of Los Gatos put the low numbers on the scorecard to win top honors in the 1011 age group at the Saratoga Country Club Little Junior Classic golf tournament recently.

Schwartz covered the nine holes with a five-over par 39 to win the girls division, and Swan was close behind with a 41 to take the boys title.

Tommy Economou of Hillsborough finished with a 43 to win the boys 9-and-under age group, and Mariko Tumangan of San Jose carded a 52 to take the girls title in the division.

Boys and girls competed together in the 7-and-under class, and it was Austin Fisher of Dublin recording a 25 over the five-hole course to finish first.

Nicole Lata of Milpitas was second in the girls 1011 age group with a 43, and Marisa Mar of El Macero was third at 46. Toby The of Los Altos shot a 42 to finish second in the boys competition, with Daniel Hsia of Sunnyvale third at 43.

It was Hsia who had the individual shot of the day, though. On the 51-yard hole-in-one fairway, Hsia fired an ace.

In the boys 9-and-under class, Bryan Odaiyar of Jackson was second with a 47 and Brandon Manacmul of Santa Clara was third with a 50. In the girls competition, Taylor Bickell of Turlock was second at 59, with Linda Brown third.

Chasing Fisher in the 7-and-under division were Jimmie Castles of Santa Clara, second at 29; Kristine Odaiyar of Jackson, third at 30; Devon Bonifield of Napa, fourth at 32; and Virginia Girard of Hillsborough, fifth at 35.

The tournament, an official event of the Junior Golf Association of Northern California event, featured more than 70 young golfers, ages 5 to 11.
