Creek trail closed until early 2003
Starting on Sept. 15, a section of Los Gatos Creek Trail will be closed for pipeline replacement. The 0.9-mile strip starts at the Main Street Bridge and goes south to the Alma Bridge access at Lexington Reservoir.
According to Ed Lambing from the San Jose Water Company, the closure will last six months while the water company replaces a " 30-inch "World War II-era pipeline with a 42-inch pipeline. Lambing said the repairs are for public safety and that there are alternate routes available.
Six streets affected by wildlife run
The annual Ron's Wildlife Run, which benefits the Youth Science Institute, will be held on Sept. 15. A kids' 2K run begins at 8:20 a.m., followed by the 5K and 10K runs at 8:30 a.m. Participants take off and finish at Vasona Park but will use Blossom Hill Road, Roberts Road, Nino Avenue, Los Gatos Boulevard and Caldwell and Bella Vista avenues.
Interested parties can register the morning of the event or preregister online at www.ysi-ca.org. There is a suggested donation of $25.
Town staffer appointed to VTA committee
Linda Gallo, the Los Gatos senior coordinator, has been appointed to the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Committee for Transit Accessibility. The committee advises the VTA on services and accessibility, especially for seniors and the handicapped. As senior coordinator, Gallo said, she has found that transportation is a major issue for seniors, some of whom are afraid to ride the bus.
The VTA made Gallo's appointment last month.
