The Prowler
What on earth is the Ultimate Fakebook? That's what the Prowler wondered when a press release and CD bearing that name appeared on this cat's desk. It turns out, the Ultimate Fakebook is a 6-year-old rock band comprising Bill McShane on vocals and guitar, Nick Colby on bass, Eric Melin on drums and, its newest member, J.D. Warnock, on guitar and backing vocals.

The group is on a U.S. tour, and one of its stops is A Place for Teens—a.k.a. The Outhouse—on Sept. 13. The Prowler hears the guys just released their second "power-pop driven, head-bangin'" album on Initial Records, titled Open Up and Say Awesome. For more info about the concert, call 408.395.5553.

For younger fans of live entertainment, the Los Gatos Public Library has just the ticket. On Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. the library will offer a program titled Family Night with Happy Birds. Then, on Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m., it presents Caterpillar Puppets and Piñata, a tale it bills as an Aztec version of Pinocchio. Both events are free and are geared toward children ages 4 and older. To learn more about other upcoming library programs, call 408.354.6893.

Speaking of kids, this cat hears many South Bay students will be visiting Gilroy's Bonfante Gardens—a cross between an arboretum and an amusement park—this autumn to learn about the importance of trees and plants in our lives. To that end, the nonprofit park needs folks to help lead hands-on projects, classes and teaching stations. Volunteers earn complimentary admission tickets and Bonfante Bucks. An informational meeting, including lunch, takes place Sept. 14. For all the details, call Erica Saucedo at 408.840.7149 or email esaucedo@bonfantegardens.com.
