Plaza park reopens Sept. 22
By Gloria I. Wang
The town of Los Gatos is hyping up the long-awaited opening of Los Gatos Plaza Park with a daylong party on Sunday, Sept. 22.

The celebration will have something for everyone, including historical presentations, children's entertainment, live music and a teen-sponsored food-tasting.

As part of the event, a handful of downtown streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Santa Cruz Avenue between Elm Street and Broadway; Main Street between Victory Lane and University Avenue; and Montebello Way. The Highway 17 ramp on S. Santa Cruz will also be closed.

The day's schedule is as follows:

* 11:30 a.m. - Los GatosMonte Sereno Pipe and Drum Corps marches and plays music.

* 12 p.m. - Mayor Randy Attaway does a ribbon-cutting and the Plaza's new fountain starts up.

* 12:30-4 p.m. - Historical displays, antique vehicles and costumed community members are located in and around the Plaza. Also, families can enjoy carnival games, decorating pumpkins and a bounce house.

* 12:45-4:45 p.m. - Music and children's entertainers perform in the Plaza and onstage.

* 12:30-7:30 p.m. - Los Gatos Food Fest, benefiting A Place for Teens, sells samples from 22 local restaurants. Tickets are $2 each; different food items cost from one to three tickets. There are two shifts of food being served. At the same, goods—such as gift baskets, certificates and portrait sittings—from local merchants are offered in a silent auction.

* 3-5 p.m. - Paintings that hung on the fence surrounding the Plaza are on display in front of Willow Street Wood-Fired Pizza, with the artists present. "The panels are for sale. If people are interested, they can approach the artist," says Los Gatos Arts Commissioner Elke Groves.

* 5-8 p.m. - The Joe Sharino Band takes the stage at the Santa Cruz Avenue Street Dance.
