Los Gatos sweep
It was a clean sweep for Los Gatos when the local Pop Warner Football teams played host to Santa Cruz on Sept. 8.
The Tigers roared to a 22-6 win over the Sea Lions, the Panthers blanked the Sharks 25-0 and the Cougars rolled 35-6.
Will Sparks ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns and Kyle Miller tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Colin Chapman to lead the Tigers to victory. Sparks also kicked two extra points and led the team with 13 tackles.
Sparks was in on four quarterback sacks for the winners, and Myles Johansen and Garrett Irizarry got in on one apiece. Michael Sporck forced a fumble that was recovered by Jermel Ladd.
Nick Miller and Chris LaBouff each ran for touchdowns to spark the Panthers to the win over the Sharks. LaBouff was also the leading tackler on a defense that held the Sharks to just two first downs.
Leading the way up front were offensive linemen Drew Meulman, Cam Mardis, Jake Boettcher, Alex Asturias, Alex Wollbrinck, Rick Ramirez, Anthony Frediani, Trevor Rowell, Matt Hanson, Vinny Gulisano, Warren Kistenbroker and Matt Nicora.
Danny Foster was the top tackler for the Cougars in their lopsided win over Santa Cruz. Nick Kalpin, Robbie Comeau, Nick Scudellari, Bo Nielson and Christian Walker each ran for touchdowns in the win, and Kamron Fariba kicked two extra points.
A week earlier, the Cougars had dropped a tough 12-8 decision to Oak Grove. Comeau scored on a 10-yard run for the Cougars' only touchdown of the game.
Comeau and Kalpin led the ground attack for the Cougars and Kevin Fowler, Nick Scudellari and Nick Smith were top tacklers. Fowler tackled an Oak Grove back in the end zone for a safety.
