Schools mark Walk to School Day on Oct. 2

Wednesday, Oct. 2, is international Walk to School Day, with events both in the United States and abroad. Locally students are encouraged to walk, bike or ride their scooters to school. Council members from Los Gatos and Monte Sereno will be at Los Gatos schools in the morning to hand out stickers to students who participate. Law enforcement officials from both the California Highway Patrol and the Los GatosMonte Sereno Police Department will step up enforcement of speeders and make sure small children are in car seats.

Marc Jensen from Los Gatos Peds says that drivers should exercise special caution when on the roads that day.

Park Avenue lot to close in October

The San Jose Water Company will close off the Park Avenue parking lot in October from anywhere from two weeks to the entire month as part of its pipeline repairs. Its current work on the Los Gatos Creek Trail pipe will extend to the public lot.

Mary Gillespie-Greenberg, administrative analyst for the Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department, said residences and businesses with their own driveways off of Park Avenue will be able to get in and out but will be unable to use the lot. Other all-day lots are nearby for drivers who customarily use the Park Avenue space.
