Alexa Anderson had a killer week for the Los Gatos girls volleyball team—and because of it, the Wildcats cruised to a pair of wins in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL).

Anderson hammered down 12 kills to lead the Wildcats to a 15-9, 15-3, 15-5 win over Santa Clara. Earlier in the week, Anderson had 11 kills in a 15-8, 15-11, 15-1 victory over a solid Los Altos team. It was the first league loss for the Eagles.

Los Gatos improved to 4-0 in the division with the two wins. The Wildcats are 8-2 for the year.

The Cats have just one match this week. Los Gatos was to travel to Mountain View on Oct. 7 to take on the Spartans, and faces a Wednesday bye. The Wildcats will host Gunn on Oct. 15, 6:45 p.m.

Yuki, Reyes star

Sarah Yuki had two goals and an assist and Alison Reyes had a goal and two assists to lead the effort for the Los Gatos girls field hockey team last week. Still, the Wildcats could manage just a split, losing 2-1 to Mitty after blanking Lynbrook 4-0.

The Cats are now 8-2 for the year and 2-2 in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. St. Francis leads the pack at 3-0-1, with Mitty and Los Altos sharing second, both teams at 2-1-1.

Yuki, a junior, dumped in a second-half goal off an assist from Reyes, also a junior. But Mitty scored two goals in the second half to pull out the tight win. The clubs had battled to a scoreless tie in the first half.

Earlier in the week, Los Gatos had jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead and rolled from there to the 4-0 win over Lynbrook. Yuki scored off an assist from senior Merin Clark, Reyes scored off a Clark assist and Clark scored off a Reyes assist to give the Cats the early lead. Jenny Dixon scored off an assist from Annie Smith in the second half to round out the scoring for the Wildcats. Both Dixon and Smith are seniors.

Norman leads Cats

Becca Norman pitched in three goals and Catherine Eastman and Rachel Jeffers tossed in two apiece to spark the Los Gatos girls water polo team to a 10-3 win over Cupertino in the league opener for each squad. The win left the Wildcats 10-4 for the year and 1-0 in the SCVAL's De Anza Division.

Rebecca Stein, Agata Kosmalska and Nicole Graziosi also scored goals in the Los Gatos victory.

Gatos opened up a 3-1 lead in the first period and stretched that to 6-1 by the half. The Wildcats outscored the Pioneers 2-1 in each of the last two quarters to coast to the win.

Golfers win

Ginnie Lively carded a 9-over par 45 to lead the Los Gatos girls golf team to a 198-243 win over Mills last week in a Peninsula Athletic League match at the La Rinconada Country Club. The Wildcats improved to 6-1 for the year with the win.
