Peckler family is honored in Truckee

The Peckler family was honored by Caltrans, law enforcement agencies and high school students in Truckee on Oct. 10. The group unveiled a memorial sign stating "Please—Don't Drink and Drive" in remembrance of Los Gatans Jim, 52, Jill, 21, and Jeffrey, 15. The three were killed when their car was hit by a drunk driver Jan. 17, 1997, near Lake Tahoe. The sign is at the spot where the accident occurred.

Judy Peckler, Jim's wife and the mother of Jill and Jeffrey, attended the ceremony. She had spoken about alcohol awareness at North Tahoe and Truckee high schools earlier this year. A $500 memorial scholarship has been established at each of the schools.
