Special win for Wildcats in
Pop Warner play
By Dick Sparrer
It was a special win for the Los GatosSaratoga Wildcats when they edged the Coastside Seahawks 14-6 in recent Pop Warner Football play.

Special teams played a major role in the win as the Wildcats blocked a Coastside 2-point conversion attempt, kicked one of their own and maintained great field position thanks to the punting of Will Kapp.

Kapp booted three punts for a 31.0 average, including one kick that John Forbes and Louis Santoro downed at the Seahawks' 1-yard line. Kapp also drilled a pair of long kickoffs and booted a 2-point conversion.

Forbes came through with the block on the Coastside 2-point attempt early in the game.

Kapp led the offense with 11 carries for 46 yards and Bobby Enquist supported with 33 yards on nine tries. Kapp was also the club's top passer and Dustin Wynne was the top receiver.

Wynne led the defense with 11 tackles and defensive tackle Robbie LaBouff was in on seven. Ryan Black intercepted two passes.

The Wildcats pushed their season record to 4-2 with the win.

The Panthers ran their season record to
6-0 with a lopsided 30-0 win over the Coastside Buccaneers.

Chris LaBouff had touchdown runs of 65 and 10 yards to lead the Panthers to the victory. Sean Whalen scored on a 20-yard run, and Chase Hayhurst blasted over for a TD from the 1-yard line. Kevin Kephart added three two-point conversion kicks.

Alex Estrada was the top passer for the locals, and Trevor Vlay was the leading receiver.

It was the fourth shutout in six games for the Panthers.

Will Sparks ran for two touchdowns and an extra point and Colin Chapman carried nine times for 96 yards and a TD to lead the Tigers to a 19-0 win over the Coastside Pirates.

The win left the Tigers 4-1-1 for the year and undefeated in division play.

Along with his 96 yards rushing, including an 81-yard touchdown run, Chapman completed 3 of 5 passes for 42 yards, including a 25-yarder to Robert Kundtz.

The Tigers ran up 229 yards of total offense, thanks to the blocking of linemen Todd Ericson, Carter Krach, Myles Johansen, Robert Wright, Aaron Dinapoli, Bradley Miller, Anthony Smith and Anthony Freeman.

Kundtz was the defensive leader with 14 tackles. Joey Vizzusi was in on 11 stops and Garrett Irizarry had nine tackles as the Tigers held the Pirates to just 47 total yards in the shutout. Irizarry, Sparks and Chapman were each in on quarterback sacks, and Jermel Ladd and Matt Marcus recovered fumbles.

Andrew Berg set up one of Sparks' two touchdowns with a 19-yard run.

The Los Gatos Cougars lost a tough 12-6 decision to Bayside, the first-place team in the division.

Sam Scudellari broke a bootleg 45 yards to the Bayside 7-yard line to set up his own short touchdown run for the Cougars' only score of the day. Blockers Chris Frost, Julian Luhan and Danny Foster led Scudellari into the end zone.

Nick Kalpin, Nick Scudellari, Nick Smith and Ryan Van Amburg were defensive leaders for the Cougars.
