Boy Scouts are gearing up for their annual food drive
Thousands of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts began their annual Scouting for Food campaign on Nov. 9, spreading out through their neighborhoods to hang flyers on neighbors' doors. The flyers encourage residents to fill bags full of nonperishable food items to feed the needy this holiday season. The Scouts will return on Nov. 16 to collect the food bags and donate them to local food banks and shelters.

In the Scouting tradition of "doing a good turn daily," Boy and Cub Scouts in Santa Clara County collected more than 26 tons of food last year. So far, more than 450 Scouts and their leaders have signed up to participate in this year's Scouting for Food campaign. Among the nonprofit organizations benefiting from this year's drive are Second Harvest Food Bank, Sunnyvale Community Services, Milpitas Food Pantry, Home Church in Campbell and St. Joseph's Community Service in Gilroy.
