New board members for Lakeside

The Lakeside Joint School District will be welcoming two new members and two incumbents to the governing board when new terms start in December.

Janice Compton led the Nov. 5 election with 103 votes, or 30.8 percent of the Lakeside vote. Brent Schwager finished second with 84 votes (25.1 percent). Incumbent and board president Parker Stokes came in third with 75 votes (22.5 percent). George Green, who only trailed Stokes by three votes, finished last with 21.6 percent.

Trish Dubberley's position as a short-term board member has been renewed, placing her on the board for a third time. Dubberley had a narrow win by three votes over Stacey Johnson, for a total of 71 votes.

Union will welcome new member

After eight years, the Union School District trinity of Janice Hector, Cindy Goodsell and Richard Salciccia has come to an end.

In December, the district's governing board will replace Salciccia with newcomer Sheila Billings.

Billings led the district election with 5,106 votes, garnering 23 percent of favor with voters. Incumbent Goodsell followed in second with 5,026 votes (22.6 percent), and incumbent and board president Janice Hector rounded out the election with 4,887 votes (22 percent). Both Goodsell and Hector retained their seats.

Richard Salciccia finished fourth with 4,467 votes, and Christy Guerra-Raynor, a new candidate, placed last with 2,707 votes.

Two state propositions win big

Voters approved state bond measure Proposition 47, which involves the sale of $13,050,000,000 in general obligation bonds for construction and renovation of K-12 schools, community colleges and universities.

State Proposition 49, which would increase funding for programs before and after school and permanently slate general funds to be used for such programs, was approved.
