Dinner for seniors is on Nov. 23

The annual Los Gatos Thanksgiving dinner for seniors takes place on Nov. 23, starting at noon at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St. There will be entertainment, door prizes and food donated by Los Gatos restaurants and coordinated by Chris Benson of C.B. Hannegan's.

Although the dinner is free, the Los Gatos Senior Center is asking those attending to donate canned food for the St. Luke's Church food bank. For more information, call Linda Gallo at 408.354.1514.


School named after LGHS graduate

A Washington school district has named a not-yet constructed school after former Los Gatos resident Todd Beamer, who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on Sept. 11. Todd Beamer High School is slated to open its doors to students next fall. The school will be in Federal Way, Wash.

Federal Way Public School's board of directors voted for the naming on Oct. 22. Beamer has been widely hailed as a hero and credited as being one of the Americans who stopped Flight 93 from crashing into a major structure.


Vasona lights volunteers are needed

The county is looking for volunteers to help out with the annual Fantasy of Lights event at Vasona Lake County Park. The display runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 31, and the county needs volunteers to work from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
