Seniors Sandy Sargent and Katie Rowell will lead the Los Gatos girls volleyball team into the postseason this week as the Wildcats open the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division II playoffs against Yerba Buena at Mitty.
The Cats wrapped up the championship in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League last week with wins over Gunn and Santa Clara to complete a 12-0 season.
Now the Wildcats, 21-6 for the year, face the Warriors in the CCS quarterfinals on Nov. 16, 1 p.m., on the Mitty floor. The Warriors take a 15-3 season record into the match.
Los Gatos continued its winning ways in league play with the two victories last week.
Junior outside hitter Hilary Lewis drilled a team-high 12 kills to pace the Cats to a 15-9, 15-6, 15-5 win over Gunn at the start of the week.
Rowell and sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Mason popped 11 kills apiece two nights later in a 15-1, 15-7, 15-1 win over Santa Clara.
The Los Gatos girls field hockey team is also bound for CCS following a 15-3 regular season. The Wildcats posted a 9-3 record in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.
The Cats edged Los Altos 3-2 in the final regular season game last week. Gemma Michaelis scored off a Tiffany Baiardo assist, and Jodi Christiansen picked up two assists from Allison Reyes and one from Annie Smith to score two goals in the win.
Gatos was up 2-1 at the half, then matched Los Altos' second-half goal to clinch the 3-2 victory.
Senior superstars Catherine Eastman and Rachel Jeffers combined for five goals, but the Los Gatos girls water polo team lost 10-9 to Cupertino in the De Anza Division tournament.
Eastman led the Cats with three goals, and Jeffers pitched in two. Seniors Becca Norman, Becca Stein and Kristen Gonzales also scored in the win, along with sophomore Breezy Conner.
