Residents hold food, turkey drive

The Live Oak Manor neighborhood is holding its annual Thanksgiving food and turkey drive on Nov. 23 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The neighborhood will be collecting food at 257 Longridge Road and is accepting frozen turkeys, canned foods and nonperishable goods such as rice and boxed pastas.

Immediately afterward, the residents will be dropping off the food at the Second Harvest Food Bank. Last year, the neighborhood collected more than one ton of turkeys and almost 10 flats of food.

Thanksgiving dinner to be held for seniors

The annual Los Gatos Thanksgiving dinner for seniors is Nov. 23, starting at noon. The event will be held at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St. There will be entertainment, door prizes and food donated by Los Gatos restaurants and coordinated by Chris Benson of C.B. Hannegan's.

Although the dinner is free, the Los Gatos Senior Center is asking those attending to donate canned food for the St. Luke's Episcopal Church food bank. For more information, call Linda Gallo at 408.354.1514.

Commission denies two condos

At its Nov. 13 meeting the Los Gatos Planning Commission denied a request to build two condominium units on 98 Forrest Ave. The property owner had wanted to subdivide the lot and construct two 1,500-square-foot detached homes on the site. Commissioners wanted the applicant to build a duplex instead.

The commission had denied the application more than a year ago. Marhamat could appeal the decision to the Los Gatos Town Council.

Vasona lights volunteers are needed

The county is looking for volunteers to help out with the annual Fantasy of Lights event at Vasona Lake County Park. The display runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 31, and the county needs volunteers to work from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Those interested can contact Chris Crockett at 408.846.5761 or email chris.crockett@mail.prk.co.santa-clara.ca.us.
