Has anyone wondered why gingerbread houses have to be as beautiful as they are edible? Every holiday season, the Prowler ruminates whether to look at or eat these seasonal treats! Fortunately, birds and squirrels don't have these scruples; that's why the Wild Bird Center, located at 792 Blossom Hill Road, is holding a "gingerseed house" workshop on Nov. 29 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Built from nuts, fruits, seeds and grains, these cozy abodes are a great holiday gift to backyard animals who have trouble finding enough to eat over the winter. The cost is $25 per family. For do-it-yourselfers, gingerseed house kits are available at the store for making at home. To sign up for the workshop, call 408.358.WILD.
Speaking of the creative arts, the Prowler hears there's going to be an art show on Dec. 1 at Brandau Brandau Salon & Spa at 540 N. Santa Cruz Ave. This isn't just any show, however—it's a benefit for a local group called Women Artists in Recovery Co-Op.
More than two dozen members are participating in the show, which features stained glass, jewelry, fine art, fabric art, digital art and other artistic genres. Sounds pretty eclectic to this cat! The event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m., also includes a raffle and free refreshments. For all the details, call Liz Stafford at 408.423.9047 or email rzazoo@earthlink.net.
The reception for the new installation at Bill Gould Design has, unfortunately, passed, but the art is up through next spring and features interesting sculptures by Trey Hill and Robin Forrest and paintings by Mark Nobriga. Gould's Los Gatos studio is at 14107-P Winchester Blvd. Call 408.871.3140 for hours or additional information.
