Town's holiday season begins with tree-lighting and parade
By Gloria I. Wang
The holiday season in Los Gatos begins the first weekend of December with a series of annual, traditional town events.

Kicking off the weekend is the tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 6, 4 to 7 p.m. at Town Plaza Park. The ceremony includes a performance by the Los Gatos High School Marching Band, recognition of the four youth citizens of the year, a visit from Santa Claus and a lighting of the town tree by Mayor Sandy Decker. The Los Gatos Community Foundation, which is sponsoring the event, will provide refreshments.

At 7 p.m., the Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce will begin its horse-drawn carriage rides. The rides will run on various dates and times between Dec. 6 and 23. To make a reservation, contact the Chamber at 408.354.9300.

The 46th annual Children's Christmas and Holiday Parade takes place on Dec. 7. The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting on Almendra Avenue and ending at Los Gatos High School, but certain downtown streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those streets are: N. Santa Cruz Avenue, from W. Main Street to Los GatosSaratoga Road; W. Main from N. Santa Cruz to High School Court; Almendra, Bachman, Nicholson and Bean avenues between N. Santa Cruz and Tait Avenue; and Village Lane. Also, there will be no parking in the town parking lot on Bachman and Los GatosSaratoga Road, between N. Santa Cruz and University.

Marching in the parade are local organizations such as the Boy Scouts, service clubs, school marching bands, representatives from Los Gatos restaurants and other businesses, law enforcement officials, members of the Los Gatos Town Council and the world's ugliest dog.
