The Prowler
While the day after Thanksgiving is usually the official date "Santa comes to town," the Prowler has already seen Christmas-themed promotions on TV, in magazines and on store shelves. How early will it start next year?

It's never too early to help homeless animals, however, which is why this cat is glad the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley has its annual Holiday Pet Food Drive. Last year alone, the nonprofit shelter housed and fed approximately 30,000 dogs, cats and other animals in need of homes. That's a lot of chow!

And so, in this season of giving, the Humane Society hopes that when pet owners buy bags of dog and cat food or treats, perhaps they'll buy an extra bag and donate it to the shelter, located at 2530 Lafayette St. in Santa Clara. For details, call 408.727.3383, ext. 854.

Speaking of things edible, the Prowler hears that Kuleto's, the Italian restaurant inside the new Hotel Los Gatos, is having a grand opening party with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on Dec. 3 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $50 per person, with proceeds supporting the Los Gatos High School New Millennium Foundation, which is raising money to renovate the school theater. Reservations are a must, so call 408.354.2730, ext. 336 to learn more.

There's more classy fun coming Dec. 7, when The Spa of Los Gatos, at 100 S. Santa Cruz Ave., holds an open house and anniversary party, starting at 7 p.m. The event has three purposes: to raise awareness of S. Santa Cruz Avenuearea businesses, to celebrate the spa's anniversary and to collect new, unwrapped toys for Santa's Cupboard.
