The Los Gatos Cougars fought from behind to pull out a 13-12 victory over Daly City to win the Peninsula Pop Warner Football League Division III championship on Nov. 17.
The win not only clinched the title but helped the Cougars advance to the Pacific Northwest Regional playoffs that opened Nov. 23 in Santa Clara.
Nick Kalpin ran for a touchdown and an extra points and Ryan Van Amburg scored a TD to help the Cougars clinch the win. Danny Foster, Scott Day and Ben Carleton were singled out for their play in the offensive line.
Kalpin's 6-yard touchdown run in the third quarter tied the game 6-6, but Daly City scored to go up 12-6.
Van Amburg followed the blocking of Robbie Comeau and Sam Scudellari to score on a 75-yard to tie the game; then Kalpin broke the tie when he ran in for the extra point that clinched the win.
