LGHS, Fisher orchestras will perform
The Los Gatos High School Symphony Orchestra will be performing in concert with students from the Fisher Middle School Orchestra on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Calvary Church on Los Gatos Boulevard. Admission will be by donation at the door.
Second Harvest Food Drive to begin on Dec. 2
Get out the extra cans of green beans and pumpkin—the annual Second Harvest Food Drive begins Dec. 2 at all area schools.
Desired foods include anything canned, bottled, boxed or packaged that can be donated to needy families, low-income seniors and minors.
Items may be dropped off at nearby schools from Dec. 2 to 16. Last year the drive provided 21.2 million pounds of food and served nearly 120,000 Santa Clara and San Mateo county residents.
LGHS students earn Wildcat Service Award
Los Gatos High School has recognized 12 students for the 2002-03 Wildcat Service Award. The award recognizes senior students who have shown outstanding leadership, service to their school and community and embody the school motto of "honesty of purpose; intensity of effort."
Awardees include Ruth Dawson, Matt Ebrahimoon, Holden Groves, Felix Li, Cassie McClintock, Aron Rachlin, Heather Delaney, Emily Gordon, Agata Kosmalska, Christine Masterman, Priscilla Park and Cassie Silva.
Foundation calls for financial support
The newly formed Los Gatos Education Foundation (LGEF), which supports all schools within the Los Gatos Union School District, has announced its need for contributions to the school district.
Five areas have been given particular consideration for the 2002-03 school year, for which donated funds will be used. The areas include reading and writing specialists, science resource teachers and aides, art docents, the Teaching and Tutoring (TNT) program at Fisher Middle School and a professional artist to train teachers in art instruction and class lesson plans.

West Valley students on national dean's list
Devon Anderson and Jason Findley of West Valley Community College have been selected to be included on the National Dean's List, sponsored by Educational Communications, Inc.
Students are selected by college administrators and must be in the upper 10 percent of their class, as well as on the school's dean's list, to be eligible. Selected students are able to compete for $50,000 in scholarship money provided by Educational Communications, Inc.
WVC's Ken Colson will retire after 35 years
West Valley Community College anthropology professor Ken Colson has announced his retirement. After 35 years of teaching at the community college, Colson is looking to spend less time teaching and more time researching. As a past volunteer in Croatia, Mexico and Poland, Colson is now planning on participating in various volunteer projects from San Jose to Thailand.
