William Vossbrinck

Former Los Gatan William "Bill" John Henry Vossbrinck died Nov. 12 at Sunny View Manor in Cupertino. He was 90.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Vossbrinck was a 1934 graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Penn., where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. In early 1936, he was reunited with a former blind date, Lillian Emma Stokes. The couple began dating and were married in August of that year.

Vossbrinck's jobs took the family to Philadelphia, Seattle, New York and Houston before they settled in Saratoga in the 1950s. At that time, Vossbrinck began his own industrial supply company, where he continued to work well into his 80s. His son David later joined him in the family business, which now continues to run under the eldest Vossbrinck grandson. Both of the couple's sons, David and Douglas, attended local schools and graduated from Los Gatos High School.

Because he was self-employed, Vossbrinck was able to travel throughout the world with his late wife, Lillian. He also enjoyed reading, history, art, science, golf, fishing, gardening and belonging to many organizations, ranging from nonprofits to investment clubs.

Vossbrinck was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Vossbrinck, his son Douglas John Vossbrinck, and his mother-in-law, Lillie Stokes, who shared the Vossbrinck home for many years. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law David and Dell Vossbrinck; grandchildren Diana, Craig, Eric, Justin and Ian; great-grandchildren Alexander and Christopher; and sister Katherine Vossbrinck Edwards of New York.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. Donations can be made to Sunny View Manor Retirement Community, 22445 Cupertino Road, Cupertino, 95014-1043.
