For those Los Gatans with a yen for precious stones and metals, the holiday show and sale Dec. 6 and 7 at Blacy's Jewelers is a can't-miss event. It also serves as a celebration of the store's newest location—at 51 University Ave. here in Los Gatos; its new, lower prices; and its new jewelry designers. All this is according to a postcard that came across the Prowler's desk the other day.
This cat also learned that Blacy's Jewelers—which also operates in Aspen, Colo.—is owned by twin sisters Jeanette and Janet Blacy, who happen to be graduates of Los Gatos High School. The Prowler expects we'll see a more in-depth biz profile on the Blacy business in the weeks to come.
Speaking of holiday festivities, this is the last chance to get tickets for the Summit League's Homes for the Holidays fundraiser, which takes place Dec. 5 and 6 and consists of public tours through four historic Los Gatos homes lavishly decked out for the holidays. Since it's a biennial event, the folks who miss it this year will have to wait until 2004 for the next chance!
Incidentally, funds raised benefit one of the nonprofit Summit League's beneficiaries—the Downtown College Preparatory charter high school, which enrolls low-achieving minority students and prepares them to attend a four-year college. For all the details on Homes for the Holidays, call 408.494.9225.
On an unrelated note, Good Samaritan Hospital is offering a free lecture by Dr. Harmeet Sachdev, a neurologist at the Good Sam Stroke Center, on the warning signs, treatment options and prevention tactics for strokes. The event is on Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. in the main auditorium. For directions, call 408.559.2175.
