A 12-year chapter in the history of the Los Gatos Town Council was closed recently when longtime councilmen Randy Attaway and Steve Blanton ended their terms as town officials.

Attaway and Blanton handed off their seats to newly elected council members Diane McNutt and Mike Wasserman at the Dec. 2 council meeting.

McNutt and Wasserman, along with Joe Pirzynski, who was reelected, were also sworn in for their four-year terms.

Mayor Sandy Decker presented Attaway and Blanton with commendations and plaques, thanking each for their dozen years as councilmen. Decker called Attaway a "quick-thinking council member" with "unflagging dedication to the community." Blanton was given the same compliments, and Decker said he was "always responsive to his constituency."

Both Attaway and Blanton thanked the community in their final comments as councilmen.

"The time that I served as mayor was really the honor of my lifetime," Blanton said, noting that growing up in Los Gatos truly made the town his own.

McNutt, Wasserman and Pirzynski also gave thanks to their families and their campaign volunteers.

"The unsung heroes of council leadership are the husbands, wives and children who changed their lives so that we could be on council," Pirzynski said. Pirzynski said it was a "great privilege" for him to serve the town and he felt "honored and blessed."

All three promised to follow up on their campaign promises.

"You'll get the best that Mike Wasserman has to offer," Wasserman said.

The final council meeting of the year is Dec. 16. The formal meeting is at 7 p.m., but a special study session on the telecommunications act is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Mayor Decker's new office hours are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the town manager's office, and by appointment at 408.354.6801.
