There will be something for every basketball fan when eight teams come together for the annual Los Gatos Lions Club Wildcat Shootout Dec. 1114 in the Gatos gym.
Live Oak of Morgan Hill will come to town with a couple of towering 6-foot-9 inside players, and Pioneer will visit Gatos led by a quick, hot-shooting point guard in Elgin Taylor.
And Saratoga, Willow Glen, Leigh, Branham, Armijo of Fairfield and host Los Gatos will offer everything in-between during the four days of exciting basketball.
"On paper, Live Oak might look like the favorite with the two 6-foot-9 kids," said Gatos coach Jim Marino. "But Armijo is always good, Leigh has a good team and we have a good team."
What it boils down to is four days of exciting basketball on the Los Gatos floor.
The tournament opens on Dec. 11, when Pioneer and Willow Glen collide at 5:30 p.m. Los Gatos will then host Saratoga at 7 p.m. A night later, Armijo and Live Oak square off at 5:30 p.m., with Leigh and Branham to play at 7 p.m.
Second-round games will be played Friday at 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The consolation game will be played Saturday at 4 p.m., followed by the third-place game at 5:30 p.m. and the championship game at 7 p.m.
Los Gatos is led by three-year varsity player Chris Clock and big 6-foot-6 inside man Nik Kay. Senior Aaron Goldfarb has also been playing well early in the season. Both Clock and Goldfarb won spots on the all-tournament team at the recent Westmont Tournament.
Los Gatos enters play this week with a 3-1 season record. The Wildcats opened the year with a 55-52 win over Leigh, then beat Prospect and Leland in the Westmont tourney. They lost to Piedmont Hills.
