The Los GatosSaratoga branch of the American Association of University Women invites all interested women—as well as men—in the community to attend its annual Authors' Lunch on Jan. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at La Rinconada Country Club, 145 Clearview Drive in Los Gatos.
The two guest authors are Laynee Gilbert and Victoria Zackheim. The women, both Bay Area residents, will talk about their recent books, answer audience questions and sign their books after they give their presentations.
Gilbert is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has maintained a private practice in Los Gatos since 1986. She has also written two books: The Complete Dream Journal and I Remember You: A Grief Journal.
The former book is designed to help readers reach insights about their dreams by teaching them how to better recall, record and interpret those dreams. The latter combines illustrated journal pages with inspirational quotations and advice geared toward anyone working through the emotions that follow the death of someone close. Gilbert has also given numerous talks, workshops and seminars—on both dreams and grief—throughout California.
Zackheim is a freelance writer who recently completed her first novel, The Bone Weaver, which combines history and fiction and centers around three generations of women and their struggles to survive life in 19th-century Eastern Europe. Zackheim resides in San Francisco, where her freelance articles and stories have appeared in technological, financial and French publications. She also conducts writing workshops, which she calls "Turning Your Family History Into Fiction."
Tickets to the Authors' Lunch are $49 per person. Books by Gilbert and Zackheim will also be available for purchase. Proceeds from the event support the AAUW's programs for girls and young women, the Eleanor Roosevelt program for teachers, self-development and research projects. To obtain advance tickets, send a check or money order payable to AAUW EF to Mary Henderson, 14830 Vickery Ave., Saratoga, 95070. For additional information, call Nancy Hobbs at 408.395.4045.
