Elizabeth Jones

Longtime Los Gatos resident Elizabeth "Betty" Hardin Jones died Nov. 15 at the age of 99.

She was born Elizabeth Clay Smith on May 8, 1903, in San Francisco, the daughter of prominent San Francisco architect Henry Clay Smith. Jones grew up in Pacific Heights, where she attended Miss Burke's School. In 1924, she married John S. Hardin.

In 1946, she married Dr. Horace G. Jones, a longtime Los Gatos physician and surgeon. Over the years, she became a fixture of Bay Area society. She was a San Francisco Opera box holder for many years, a chairperson of the Peninsula Ball, a member emeritus of the Junior League of San Francisco and an active patron of the arts.

Survivors include daughter Lowrey Jones of Diablo; granddaughters Kim Jones Ray of San Francisco, Lisa Brereton of Alamo and Brooke Blomstrom of Coto de Caza; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services have been held. Donations can be made to the Community Presbyterian Student Ministries, 222 W. El Pintado, Danville, 94526-2513.


John Dayton

Los Gatos resident John Wesley "Pat" Dayton died Dec. 7 at the age of 85.

Dayton was born March 17, 1917, in Glenburn, N.D. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Dayton was a graduate of Long Beach Junior College and the University of Redlands.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Dayton of Los Gatos; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Frank Vecchione of San Diego; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services have been held. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2065 W. El Camino Real, Suite C, Mountain View, 94040.


Bobby Parrish

Former Los Gatos resident Bobby Parrish died Dec. 23 in Stockton at the age of 74.

Born in Fayetteville, Ark., on Sept. 16, 1928, Parrish lived in the Santa Clara Valley for 52 years and worked as a foreman for PG&E for 43 years.

Parrish was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Eula Mae Parrish. Survivors include children Sharon, Randall, Jack, Danny, Francis and Janice; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister Bonnie Porter.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
