Vehicle Accident—Jan. 1, 9:47 p.m. A car driving on Shannon Road, near Santa Rosa Drive, flipped over onto its roof. The family in the car was mostly uninjured but was taken to the hospital. The car was towed, and CHP handled the accident.
Missing Person—Jan. 1, 6:11 p.m. A 27-year-old woman living on Pine Wood Lane could not be located. She suffered from bipolar syndrome and depression but did not usually take her medication. The woman had had spinal surgery and was weak and taking Valium. She called someone and said she wanted to go for a drive, but the person she called said she was in no condition to do so. The woman lived with her parents, who said she was not home and perhaps had gone to the beach in Santa Cruz. The parents said she was not a danger to herself but if police stopped her, they should evaluate her as an unstable person. Police did not take a report, but Santa Cruz police and county sheriffs were told to be on the lookout.
Spouse Beating—Jan. 1, 2:22 p.m. A husband and wife had an argument, resulting in one of them having a possible broken toe. The wife decided to stay with her sister for a few days, and the man left the house; police took a report.
Drunk in Public—Jan. 1, 7:17 a.m. In front of a store on N. Santa Cruz Avenue at Mariposa Avenue, a man lay down in the street. The clerk at the store said he tried to get up and appeared to have been drinking. Police arrested the man for being drunk in public and took him to the sobering station.
Spouse Beating—Jan. 1, 2:54 a.m. A man punched his girlfriend in the face and then went home. He then called her and made some threats. Police took the man into custody and started an investigation for domestic violence, while a judge issued an emergency protective restraining order for the woman against her boyfriend.
Trespassing—Dec. 30, 10:48 p.m. Five juveniles were skateboarding in the underground parking lot of an office complex on S. Santa Cruz Avenue and causing a disturbance. Police confronted the juveniles and had them move along.
Unstable Person—Dec. 29, 9:34 p.m. A 27-year-old woman on Belhaven Drive called police. She said she had written fraudulent checks from her mother's bank account; she also said she was on probation for battery against her father and had just had an argument with her sister. She added that she had used her sister's credit card. She was feeling guilty and crying hysterically, saying she wanted to commit suicide. The woman's family was downstairs, and she said her father is a retired policeman and an ex-Marine. She said the only thing keeping her alive was her therapist, her medication and her animals. She then started yelling at the emergency dispatcher, saying nobody cared about her. Police went to her home and found that there was no attempted suicide. They gave the family advice on using their credit cards.
