Scholarships for graduates to study medicine

The Community Hospital of Los Gatos Auxiliary has created a scholarship for local high school seniors pursuing careers in the health sciences. To be eligible, students must have already been accepted to a four-year college and have expressed the intent to study medicine, nursing, dentistry, radiology, medical technology, pharmacology, physical therapy, social services or dietetics. Several scholarships of $2,000 or more will be awarded. For information or an application, contact Syd Tierney, auxiliary scholarship chairman at the Community Hospital of Los Gatos, 815 Pollard Road, Los Gatos, 95030. The deadline for applications is April 25.


Los Gatan is on dean's list at university

Northeastern University, in Boston, Mass., recently announced its dean's list for the fall quarter 2002. Included on the list is Los Gatos resident Christine Sands. Sands, who is majoring in speech-language pathology and audiology, had a grade-point average of more than 3.25 in the quarter ending December 2002.

Sands and her twin sister Kathy graduated from Los Gatos High last summer. Both earned 75 percent scholarships to play Division I women's hockey at Northeastern University.


LGUSD school registration is set to begin

Registration packets for kindergarten and first- through eighth-grade students will be available for the Los Gatos Union School District starting Feb. 3. Registration will be available for all schools in the district, which includes Fisher Middle School and Blossom Hill, Daves Avenue, Lexington and Louise Van Meter elementary schools. Children turning 5 by Dec. 2, 2003 may register for kindergarten. Completed packets will be accepted by individual schools beginning Feb. 10 at 8 a.m. Campus visitations for upcoming kindergarten students will be held at all district elementary schools at 8:30 a.m. on March 12 and
May 14.
