Mayor to deliver State of the Town address

Mayor Sandy Decker will give the annual State of the Town address in the town's council chambers at 6 p.m. on Feb. 5. Tentative topics that will be discussed include the idea of an economic vitality roundtable, town gateways, the N. Santa Cruz Avenue streetscape project and other new initiatives. The public is invited to a reception following the address.

Town explores gateways to increase identity

The town council continued discussion last week about establishing gateways at entrance points to Los Gatos. The idea is to provide gateways, such as a banner at various locations, to boost the town's identity and possibly help revive the business community. Still in the planning stage for the formation of a gateway group, town staff have suggested that representatives from a number of commissions and committees be involved and asked the council for direction.

Suggestions offered by council members included having a professional artist design the banner and a reminder to incorporate the outer parts of the town when determining where to place the gateways. Council members also expressed a desire to educate the public that the town is still willing to fund the project at a time when the economy is down because the gateways should help provide more visibility to the business community.

Chamber to host dinner and hear from town staff

The Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual dinner Feb. 12 at the Toll House Hotel. This year's theme will be "Focus on Economic Growth," with words from the town's redevelopment manager and finance director. The evening will begin with a no-host bar at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Payments are due at the time of reservation. RSVP the Chamber by phone at 408.354.9300 or by fax at 408.399.1594.
