Board meeting

The Los Gatos Little League will hold a general membership meeting on Feb. 4 in the Career Center at Los Gatos High School. Attendance at this meeting is voluntary and is not required of parents of Little League baseball players. For more information, call Rob Dunne at 408.395.1033.


Coaches honored

Current coaches Dean Honma of Cupertino and Rodney Carlson of Prospect and retired coaches Gary Brinck of Westmont and Lynn Dyche of Oak Grove were among those recognized by the Central Coast Section (CCS) at the end of the fall sports season.

Honma, a girls field hockey coach for the Pioneers, and Carlson, a girls volleyball coach for the Panthers, were among the winners of the 2002 CCS Fall Sports Honor .

Brinck and Dyche joined Terri Sonniksen of Notre Dame­Salinas as winners of CCS Distinguished Service Awards.

Brinck, a Los Gatos resident, recently retired from his teaching position at Westmont. He had been a teacher and coach at the school since 1963 and was the Westmont athletic director for 32 years. He led his Westmont basketball teams to seven league titles and two CCS championships while running up 403 victories over 38 years of coaching.


All-comer meets

Los Gatos will host all-comer track and field meets each Saturday through March 1 at the high school track. Field events begin at 12:30 p.m., and running events start at 1 p.m. The fee is $3 per athlete for unlimited events and $2 for spectators. The divisions include women/girls, high school boys, open men and masters men (over 40). For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 408.354.7365 or 408.206.9973.


Home for athlete

The Los Gatos High School track and field team is looking for a home for Sascha Weiler, a male foreign exchange student from Germany, for the 2003­04 school year (September through June).

Families interested in taking in the exchange student for the school year should call Willie Harmatz at 408.206.9973.
