High school holds walking tour for parents

Los Gatos High School's Parent Visitation Day, which welcomes parents of incoming freshman, is Feb. 28. Parents will be able to take guided walking tours of the campus as well as observe classes and tour the newest facilities on campus. Groups of parents must meet in the school's main hall, near the double front doors, at 8:40 a.m., 9:48 a.m., 10:43 a.m., 12:13 p.m., 1:08 p.m. and 2:25 p.m.

The day's events are sponsored by the school's Home and School Club. Parking is not available on campus, and only adults are allowed to participate.


WVC chancellor serves on local club council

Stan Arterberry, chancellor of the West Valley­Mission Community College District, has been selected to serve on the advisory council of Commonwealth Club Silicon Valley. As part of the council, Arterberry will attend quarterly meetings with local notables such as Jim Cunneen, Carl Guardino, Jim Zuur and Cindy Chavez.


Exeter honors Caroline Smith of Los Gatos

Phillips Exeter Academy sophomore Caroline Shepherd Smith, a resident of Los Gatos, earned academic honors for the fall term at the New Hampshire secondary school. This is the first year at Exeter for Smith, the daughter of Ian Smith. The academy, a coed prep school, has an enrollment of more than 1,000.


CASA sponsors hip-hop classes for teenagers

Starting Feb. 28, a Campbell dance studio is holding a six-week hip-hop dance course for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls. Community Against Substance Abuse is sponsoring the series, which costs $30 for the entire six weeks. Classes are held Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. at Dance Effects Studio, 58 Campbell Ave. The classes end April 4. For more information, contact Vicki Thorburn at 408.356.2689.
