Residents who love the beauty and charm of Los Gatos now have a number of opportunities to get involved to make sure the town remains clean.
April is Keep Los Gatos Beautiful Month. The town is coordinating a number of community events to clean up parks and trails, plant flowers and do other activities to promote the environment and a sense of volunteerism.
The first official project to kick off the month is a trail and park cleanup and seed-planting project. The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon April 5, will start at 41 Miles Ave. Though the project focuses on removing debris along Los Gatos Creek Trail, families with young children might opt for a light cleanup along a route from Main Street to Oak Meadow Park, said Mary Gillespie-Greenberg, administrative analyst for the department.
To celebrate Earth Day, the Los Gatos Public Library has planned a special preschool storytime program for 10:30 a.m. on April 22. Arbor Day is April 25. Los Gatans can come out to Oak Meadow Park starting at 11 a.m. to witness a tree-planting ceremony.
Los Gatos High School will hold a campus cleanup from 9 a.m. until noon on April 26.
Leadership Los Gatos, a program designed to develop the town's citizens for leadership roles in the community, is also planning four projects for Keep Los Gatos Beautiful Month.
Also throughout the month, rotating exhibits staffed by representatives from local organizations will be featured at the farmer's market to educate the public about existing environmental programs.
