Now that kitten season has arrived, Los Gatos residents have an opportunity to help their fellow felines at an especially important time. Volunteers can help the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley by fostering any one of its lovable furry friends that need special attention until they reach an adoptable age. Adult animals recovering from surgery or illness are also in need of homes as they heal. The Humane Society provides all food, medical care and any other necessities. Prospective foster parents must fill out an application and attend an orientation. For more information, call the shelter's foster care information line at 408.727.3383, ext. 741.

Speaking of dutiful causes, former Los Gatos resident Stacey Thomas has been promoted to the rank of private, E2 in the U.S. Army for her service. Thomas is a voice interceptor for the Army and is the daughter of Linda Thomas of Los Gatos and Michael Thomas of Tulare, Calif.

While the politics of war rage on, those wishing for a break might find it with dinner, wine tasting and art at the Toll House Hotel.

On April 3 the hotel is featuring wine tasting and a special early bird dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. The Bargetto Winery will be providing samplings of several of its wines. The dinner offers six selections, from roasted chicken ziti to herb-crusted salmon.

Art by Los Gatos local Debbie Marie Arambula will accompany the tasting. Arambula specializes in backlit reverse glass paintings and hand-painted wine glasses, vases and platters. Arambula focuses her themes on vines, grape leaves and flowered landscapes.
