Before getting ahead of yourself in cheerful thoughts of approaching summer fun—parades, gelato feasts and days in the park—there are plenty of interesting excursions, events and workshops to attend this month.

If you or a loved one is looking to retire and needs help, be sure to mark your calendar for April 18 from 1 to 4 p.m., when the Los GatosSaratoga Community Education and Recreation Department is hosting a workshop to explore housing options for those looking to retire.

The workshop is aimed toward older singles and couples who are not sure of their future options. Information is also handy for the adult children of parents who need assisted living or want to downsize their living space. Workshop leader Ann Wolfe, the author of Best Retirement Residences in the West, will have several guest presenters share information on buying and selling as well as the changes to expect when moving into a new environment.

The cost is $10, and early registration is encouraged. The event will take place at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, located at 208 E. Main St.

Exercise is not only one of the best treatments for ailing bodies but also for lagging spirits. So head out and hike St. Joseph's Hill with docents from the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District on April 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hikers meet at the VTA parking lot, located at the corner of Highway 9 and Santa Cruz Avenue, across from Bakers Square in Los Gatos. For more information, call Renée Fitzsimons at 650.691.1200, ext. 536.
