Veterinarians commended by council

The Los Gatos Dog and Cat Hospital received a commendation from the town council recently for its 50-plus years of work in the community. Founded in 1947, the hospital has been involved with the Youth Science Institute at Vasona Park and with local schools.

The founder, Dr. Martin Fremont, attempted to gain the town's approval for the hospital in 1946, but residents in the neighborhood who opposed the establishment killed the idea in an 8-6 vote. The following year, residents voted 8-6 in favor of the hospital. Today the hospital is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association, a distinction awarded to only about 15 percent of animal hospitals in the U.S.
