The Prowler
Having watched the movie Chicago for the third time now, this frisky feline is in the mood to dance. Luckily for me and other wannabe dancers, jazz hands and shimmying shoulders will fit right in as San Jose kicks off its South Bay Celebrates National Dance Week.

The weeklong event includes dance forms such as jazz, ballet, tango, salsa, the Hawaiian hula and capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian dance that incorporates self-defense moves.

Of special note, Monte Sereno resident Mythili Kumar and her Abhinaya Dance Company will be featured in the celebration. The dance company will have an open house and demonstration on April 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Studio 10, 6190 Bollinger Road in San Jose. Kumar founded the dance company in 1981 and is the principal choreographer and artistic director.

Events are free and open to everyone—from children to seniors, skilled dancers to those who only know the hokeypokey. For the complete schedule of events, visit www.voiceofdance.com.

Geri and Lee Actor, two other longtime Monte Sereno residents, are getting into the artistic mix as well. Lee is the assistant conductor of the Palo Alto Philharmonic and will be presenting his third original piece, Symphony No. 1, with the Palo Alto Philharmonic on April 26 at 8 p.m. at the Spangenberg Theatre, located at 780 Arastradero Road in Palo Alto.

His wife, Geri, is the president of the orchestra and as a violist will be among those performing his piece on April 26.
