With fame and fortune splashed on everything from billboards to bus ads, it's time to face acting head on and bring that old razzle-dazzle home to your neck of the woods.
For those past their prime, the chance of being twinkle toes is a long shot. But for up-and-coming teens, the perfect chance to test one's stage ability is happening on April 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the Henry Loose Hall on 550 Hubbell Way in Los Gatos. That is where auditions kick off for the Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival Conservatory Program, to be held this summer. The auditions are open to all high school students, with eight available spots.
The program is an intense workshop instructing future thespians in acting, stage combat and period dance. To show off all they've learned, students will perform during the Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival's closing night reception. The program is held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. every Saturday from June 7 through July 26 (no class July 5). Tuition is $500 per student. For more information, call Festival Theatre Ensemble at 408.996.0635.
If being onstage sounds more like a nightmare than a dream, sit on the other side of the spectrum and watch the graceful but ever-powerful Luba Sindler perform. The renowned pianist will be in concert at Los Gatos High School on April 27 at 2:30 p.m.
Sindler grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia and has two doctorate degrees—from the St. Petersburg Conservatory and the Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Doors open at 2 p.m., with tickets on sale at the door for $20 for adults and $5 for students with identification.
