Rugby tourney

The San Jose Seahawks, still seeking to win their first USA Rugby National Championship since they were founded in 1971, will host Pool A of the Pacific Coast Rugby Championships April 2627 at Watson Bowl, 23rd and Taylor streets in San Jose.

San Jose will open April 26 against the Oregon Rugby Sports Union (1 p.m.), with the Seattle Rugby Club meeting the Las Vegas Rugby Club in the other first-round game (11 a.m.). Losers and winners meet on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the top three teams earning berths in the National Final Four, set for June 78 in Pittsburgh, Penn.

By winning in the Pebble Beach Classic Invitational Tournament in 1989 as well as taking numerous Golden Gate Tournament titles, the Seahawks have claimed a place among the elite clubs in the nation, but their finish among the top eight the last two seasons has been their best national showing to date.

Leading the Hawks are former Scotland International player Paul Jennings and two players capped as USA Eagles, Jovesa Naivalu and Chris Kron.

Admission to the Pacific Coast Tournament is $5. For more information, visit www.sjrugby.org or call 408.267.7117.
