Clock, Anderson win all-league honors for Los Gatos basketball
By Dick Sparrer
Bryte Nielson had quite a sophomore season for the girls basketball team at Saratoga High School. In fact, she seems to have had a better sophomore season than any other player in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

When the division coaches got together to select their all-league team for the 200203 season, Saratoga's Nielson was named the division's sophomore of the year.

Palo Alto's Megan Martin was tagged the league's most valuable player, and her Paly teammate Sara Schutte was picked the junior of the year. Nielson won the top sophomore award, and Gunn's Leanne Perricone was tabbed the freshman of the year.

The four special award winners were all selected to the all-league first team in the division along with Jossy Tseng of Palo Alto, Victoria Liu of Saratoga, Alexa Anderson of Los Gatos, Denise Williams and Jo Ann Alvarez of Milpitas, and Rekha Arakeri of Monta Vista.

Winning all-league second-team honors in the division were Julia Anderson and Tiffiny Tan of Saratoga, Virginia Fritsch of Los Gatos, Chelsea Taylor of Gunn, Phat Dinh of Milpitas and Melanie Wen and Jennifer Marciano of Monta Vista.

Claiming spots on the honorable mention list were Kate Baskauskas of Palo Alto, Kaja Martin of Gunn, Katie McClenathan of Los Gatos and Julia Stephens of Los Altos.

In boys basketball, Jesse Enchill of Fremont won most valuable player honors in the rugged De Anza Division.

Members of the all-league first team were Julian Conyers of Milpitas, Chris Clock of Los Gatos, Derek Brannon of Gunn, Ryan Symes of Palo Alto, and Darrel Birton of Wilcox.
