A month and a half after first being arrested for sex acts with a minor, a Los Gatos soccer coach has yet to enter a plea for his charges.
San Jose resident Jason Hemmes originally had a court date on April 23, but the plea was pushed back to May 21 due to scheduling conflicts on both sides.
According to Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Rob Baker, Hemmes' defense attorney had another court appearance scheduled on the morning of April 23. And "we're still doing our investigation and the investigator is out of town," Baker said.
Postponing the plea for a month would allow the district attorney's office to receive complete reports and investigate further if there are any additional alleged victims.
Hemmes, 45, was originally charged with lewd conduct and sexual battery of a 15-year-girl whom he coached on a Los Gatos United Soccer League team. Since the March 11 arrest, a second alleged victim has spoken with police, and the charges have been changed to child molestation.
The second girl was under 14 years of age when the alleged incidents occurred in 2000, Baker said.
Anyone with information about the case or about Hemmes is asked to call Det. Guy Kuyat at 408.808.4500.
